Dimapur New Market’s GB shot dead; committee demands ‘swift, decisive justice’

New Market, Dimapur, Nagaland, June 8 (HBTV): The lull in civilian-related deaths in Nagaland due to gun violence has been broken. Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a Gaon Buran (GB; a village head) in Dimapur on the night of June 7.

The Gaon Bura of New Market identified as Abdul Kayum Talukdar was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at approximately 9:00 PM at Shaam Bazar at Signal Basti in Dimapur.   

The GB was rushed to Faith Hospital but succumbed to injuries.   

Following the incident, the New Market business welfare committee of ward-19 had dencounced the murder.  

‘The savage and inhumane nature of this crime has left us in a state of profound distress and horror, resonating deeply within our community,’ a statement from the committee stated.

‘Through this letter, we want to unequivocally state that such barbaric actions are intolerable and must be met with swift and decisive justice,’ it stated.     

The committee has urged the law enforcement authorities to thoroughly investigate the crime and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.       

‘It is imperative that comprehensive measures are implemented to protect our vulnerable community members and prevent such monstrous acts in the future.’
